Maroon and White, by Charles Hensley
Maroon and White mean a lot of things to us of Maplewood. It's almost like the red, white and blue is to our country. In a way, the two colors represent us as brothers and sisters. It's been several years since we walked the halls, sat in the classrooms, danced at the sock hops, and went to the games to play or cheer on our classmates. We sat in our groups and talked about different things. It all put a bond between us that only we of the Maplewood family can truly understand.
Those that missed the 2007 Reunion Picnic missed more than good food; they missed the friendship, the memories, the love we have for our old friends, and the sharing of our memories. We remembered our classmates and teachers gone on before us, and we shared our life now with our kids and our grandkids.
As I drove home from the picnic I recalled the memories of my life, and realized what Maplewood brought to me—the joys and the lessons it gave me in life. I tried to recall the bad times as well, but the fond memories pushed them to the back of my mind and put a fog over them.
To my lifetime Maplewood family: God Bless, and know if you need anything I will do whatever I can.
